Nature Centers, Parks & Outdoor Recreation

Barron Blue Hills
If you love the outdoors, these beautiful and varied hills are a great source for recreation. They appear blue on hazy days and are a legacy left us by the great glaciers of long ago. County Parks: Grant, Southworth Memorial, Waldo Carlson and Veterans Memorial and Kirby Lake and Chain Lake/Twin Lake Primitive Campsites

Fish the Red Cedar River
Recent studies prove the Red Cedar River can fairly boast more fish life than any other body of water in Wisconsin. You'll find northern, trout, walleye, and bass. Hunt Hill Nature Center & Audubon Sanctuary
Experience the world of nature on 500 acres of 150 year-old oak forests, prairies, northern bogs and crystal clear glacial lakes in Wisconsin's North Woods. A wildlife sanctuary and learning center dedicated to promoting a greater respect between people and their surroundings through the discovery of nature. On Long Lake, north of Rice Lake

Ice Age National Scenic Trail
Barron County section of a 1000 mile trail that outlines some of the most dynamic glacial geology in Wisconsin. Establishment of the trail is a joint effort of the Ice Age Park & Trail Foundation, the National Park Service, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Interpretive Center offers exhibits on Wisconsin's glacial past. The Interpretive Center is located east of New Auburn on County M, Phone (715) 967-2800

Camp Phillips Boy Scout Camp

Horse Trails
Trail, parking and primitive camp system in the Narrow Gauge area of Bear Lake township on county forest land. Offers nearly 6 miles of riding. Managed by the Barron County Horse Trail Association.

Museums & Historical Sites

Almena Veteran's Memorial
This important tribute was constructed and dedicated by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Almena Post #8512 in 1991. The memorial gratefully and respectfully salutes those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Village Park, Almena
 
Bayfield Trail

Calhoun Memorial Museum

Indian Mounds Park
The park protects 12 burial mounds of the Dakota Sioux Tribe. There are 250 burial mounds in Barron County, more than any other Northwestern region of like size. Lakeshore Drive, Rice Lake
 
Pioneer Village Museum
Barron County Historical Society's museum features 28 vintage building in an early pioneer village setting, containing approximately 4000 items of interest. Pipestone Quarry
Now privately owned, the quarry contains a wealth of red, soft rock which was used for centuries as a source of "pipestone" carved into pipes by members of the north and western tribes. According to legend this is the place referred to indirectly in Longfellow's "Hiawatha" as the source. Near Rice Lake (Not Accessible By Car).
