Timber Cutting Permits

NOTICE TO LANDOWNERS & LOGGERS CUTTING NOTICE REQUIRED

Landowners and loggers planning to cut forest products on private land are reminded they must file a cutting notice at the County Clerk’s office prior to the start of cutting. Forest Products include logs, pilings, posts, cordwood, pulpwood, whole tree chips, Christmas trees and firewood cut for re-sale.

FIREWOOD CUT FOR YOUR OWN USE IS EXEMPT FROM CUTTING NOTICE REQUIREMENTS.

A cutting notice must be filed each year forest products are cut. Filing the cutting notice at the County Clerk’s office only takes a few minutes and is FREE. Approval is quick and automatic if property taxes have been paid. The purpose of the law is to prevent removal of forest products from lands with delinquent property taxes. If a cutting notice is not filed and forest products are cut, both the landowner and cutter may be issued citations. In addition, if property taxes on the land are delinquent, the County Sheriff has the authority to seize cut forest products to prevent transport.
