The County Clerk is a constitutional officer who is elected every four years. The roots of the Wisconsin Office of County Clerk go back to the 14th century England where the office gradually developed into an office recognizable as similar to our own. Election of county clerks in Wisconsin began in 1849 with the offices being constitutionally mandated.
