Genealogy Research Rules and Regulations

Information Available to Researchers:

Barron County's Register of Deeds office maintains a tremendous amount of important historical documents pertaining to the county. Historical documents maintained in the office and accessible to the general public are listed below:

  • Birth Records (Earliest Registration Date is 1877)
  • Death Records (Earliest Registration Date is 1876)
  • Marriage Records (Earliest Registration Date is 1871)
  • Domestic Partnerships
  • Property Ownership
  • 1903 and 1927 Plat Maps
  • Surveys
  • United States Land Patents

Users of Vital Records Must do the Following: 

  • Present satisfactory proof of identity.
  • Read and sign the Vital Records Office Application for In-Person Search.
  • The following are not allowed in the vital record area:
    • Food/Beverages
    • Coats
    • Purses
    • Briefcases
    • Bags
    • Private copy machines
    • Cameras
    • Children under twelve
  • Absolutely no pictures are to be taken of any records.  Violators will be asked to leave immediately.
  • Refrain from loud talking, laughing and noise making.
  • Only pencils may be used.
  • Go directly to the volume and page you are looking for. Paging through the volumes is prohibited.
  • Handle all books with care and respect.
    • Return all books to their proper space.
    • Do not place books on top of each other.
    • Do not write in books.
  • Only one verbal warning will be given. Continued violators will be asked to leave the office.
