Genealogy Research Rules and Regulations
Information Available to Researchers:
Barron County's Register of Deeds office maintains a tremendous amount of important historical documents pertaining to the county. Historical documents maintained in the office and accessible to the general public are listed below:
- Birth Records (Earliest Registration Date is 1877)
- Death Records (Earliest Registration Date is 1876)
- Marriage Records (Earliest Registration Date is 1871)
- Domestic Partnerships
- Property Ownership
- 1903 and 1927 Plat Maps
- Surveys
- United States Land Patents
Users of Vital Records Must do the Following:
- Present satisfactory proof of identity.
- Read and sign the Vital Records Office Application for In-Person Search.
- The following are not allowed in the vital record area:
- Food/Beverages
- Coats
- Purses
- Briefcases
- Bags
- Private copy machines
- Cameras
- Children under twelve
- Absolutely no pictures are to be taken of any records. Violators will be asked to leave immediately.
- Refrain from loud talking, laughing and noise making.
- Only pencils may be used.
- Go directly to the volume and page you are looking for. Paging through the volumes is prohibited.
- Handle all books with care and respect.
- Return all books to their proper space.
- Do not place books on top of each other.
- Do not write in books.
- Only one verbal warning will be given. Continued violators will be asked to leave the office.
