Mold

Mold and mold spores can be found just about anywhere and can grow in almost any environment.  When the mold spores land in a favorable environment with moisture and oxygen, mold is likely to grow.  When mold growth is discovered, it usually indicates a moisture or humidity problem in the home.  Moisture to sustain mold growth may come from plumbing leaks, roof leaks, foundation leaks, etc.

High humidity in a home is usually caused by one of the following issues:  inadequate ventilation in bathrooms or the kitchen, clothes dryers not properly vented to the outside of the home, aquariums, humidifiers, and misting house plants. Cold surfaces such as freezers, windows, and water pipes can allow water to condense which can also contribute to mold growth.
