Clerk of Circuit Court

HISTORY OF DEPARTMENT:

The Clerk of Court's office is statutorily mandated to provide recordkeeping and collect all fees, fines, and forfeitures for the judicial system.  The office is headed by the Clerk of Court, a county elected position.  Until 1978 when the court system reorganized, the Clerk of Court's office provided administrative services for both the county court and circuit court.  Wisconsin is now under a single trial court system.

MISSION STATEMENT/DEPARTMENTAL PURPOSE:

The Clerk of Court's office provides administrative support services for all branches of the Barron County Circuit Court including recordkeeping for all court cases, collecting money on court ordered obligations, and managing the court's jury system.  We also assist the public in accessing the courts and its records.  As representatives of the judicial system, Clerk of Court's staff treat those we help and serve with dignity, fairness and sensitivity.

TOPICS DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL CAN SPEAK ABOUT:

Jury service; deferred payment plans; procedures for unpaid fines; Community Service programs, education for divorcing parents and underage drinking programs; the Circuit Court Automation Program, and the court system in general.

THE CLERK OF CIRCUIT COURT AND STAFF ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE LEGAL ADVICE.  Legal questions should be directed to your attorney or to the Lawyer Referral Service at 1-800-362-9082.

SERVICES:

  • Filing of all court actions including Divorce, Criminal, Civil, Small Claims, Traffic, and Restraining Orders
  • Jury Management
  • Public Access Terminal
  • Payments of all fines and forfeitures, including setting up payment plans and wage assignments.

RECORD REQUESTS:

Copies of court case documents can be obtained by paying the statutory copy fee of $1.25 per page pursuant to  814.61(10) Wis. Stats.  Requests may be made by:

  • Call 715-537-6265 to make payment arrangements.
  • Fax a request to 715-537-6269.  A $2.00 fax fee for the transmittal of any documents will be charged.
  • Email Sharon.Millermon@wicourts.gov
  • Mail your request to:  Barron County Clerk of Circuit Court, Barron County Justice Center Room 2201, 1420 State Hwy 25 North, Barron, WI 54812.  A self addressed stamped envelope for the return of requested documents is required.
  • In person.

Certified documents require an additional $5.00 fee pursuant to 814.61(5)(a) Wis. Stats.

RECORD SEARCHES:  Pursuant to 814.61(11) Wis. Stats. a $5.00 search fee is charged for searching files or records to locate any one action when the person requesting the search does not furnish the case number of the action, or to ascertain the existence or non-existence of any instrument or record in the custody of the Clerk of Circuit Court.
